Spotify's AI DJ is real. It launched in early 2023 as a personalized radio host that picks a lineup for each listener and talks over it in a startlingly realistic voice, built on generative models and Spotify's own voice technology. It has expanded to many more markets since, and every new market gets the same voice, the same commentary, the same bill.
That is the launch problem. Personalized AI audio at consumer scale means three risks land in every new market on day one: inference cost that scales with listening, voice quality that lives or dies on local names and accents, and content safety for accounts you owe a duty of care. A launch plan here is not a marketing calendar. It is a control system with gates that can say no.

What this shows: phased rollout design where expansion is earned rather than scheduled, launch gates and kill criteria written before the pressure to ignore them arrives, guardrail metrics (cost per listener, complaints per 10k, incident count) treated as first-class launch numbers, and go-to-market sequencing that prices inference cost into the plan.
